Our History

Consumers Supply Co. is a full line distributor of plumbing and heating supplies and specializes in the design and sales of custom kitchens and bathrooms. Located under the “L” in the West Loop between the Randolph and Fulton Markets, Consumers Supply has been an instrumental part of the growth of the near West Side that today includes many new loft homes, nightclubs and restaurants.

The current location dates back to the mid 1920’s when the early owners sold used building materials including lumber, pipe, fittings and plumbing supplies. As the years approached WWII the owners had access to new goods from a variety of manufacturers.

After the war this established Consumers as a reliable source of plumbing and heating supplies among the many distributors who had begun to locate along Lake Street. Consumers Supply remains as the only full line distributor in the area and the nearest supply house west of the Loop.

In the early spring of 1973, Howard and Rick Brenner purchased the supply business and began a long standing commitment of top quality customer service and satisfaction. Howard’s background in the hardware business along with his over the counter sales experience and people skills proved to be a valuable asset to the company.

Rick’s degree in Industrial Engineering and Management Science added another piece of the puzzle that allowed father and son soon to be recognized as reliable business partners and distributors. In 1975 a new kitchen and bath showroom featuring fixtures and cabinetry was added in an adjoining warehouse and the company began to grow as the home remodeling and do-it-yourself industry took off.

Today’s business includes a vibrant plumbing and heating full line sales counter that always includes the hard to find items. The showroom is always changing and updated in order to display the most current selections for the kitchen and bath from the world’s most popular manufacturers. A hard working, helpful and knowledgeable staff that cares is present to assist contractors, designers, developers, commercial accounts and home owners alike.

Today, hard work and the spirit of dedication continue to allow the Brenners to pursue their business goals.
