Radiator Styles
We carry four styles of cast iron radiators
Traditional radiator
Traditional
The classic workhorse radiator. Simple, solid, and effective. Found in homes built from the early 1900s through mid-century. Recognizable by its uniform column design and straightforward profile.
Victorian radiator
Victorian
Ornate and decorative, with detailed casting work and an elegant silhouette. Popular in late 19th and early 20th century homes. These are statement pieces that add architectural character to a room.
Tube radiator
Tube
A more streamlined design with cylindrical tube columns. Often taller and narrower than traditional styles. Good heat output in a slightly more modern-looking profile that blends into contemporary spaces.
Slender radiator
Slender
A slim, compact profile designed for spaces where depth is limited. Delivers solid heat output without protruding far from the wall. A practical choice for hallways, bathrooms, and smaller rooms.
Radiator Types
Understanding your heating system
Hot water
Connected to a boiler that circulates hot water through the radiator via two pipes. Common in homes built after the 1950s. If you have two pipes running to each radiator, you have a hot water system.
Steam
Uses a boiler to generate steam that heats the radiator. Usually identifiable by a single pipe at the base and an air vent on the side. Common in older Chicago homes and apartment buildings.
Works for both
Compatible with either hot water or steam systems depending on how they are connected. Not sure what system you have? Call us at (312) 666-6080 and we will help you figure it out.
Radiator Categories
All of our radiators are used cast iron radiators. The difference is in how they have been prepared for resale.
Regular radiator
Regular Used Radiators
Removed from Chicago-area buildings and sold as-is with original paint. Normal cosmetic wear -- chips and discoloration are common. Every radiator is cleaned (fittings removed, threads tapped) and pressure tested for leakage. All come with a 1-year limited warranty. Priced at $35 per section.
Restored radiator
Restored Used Radiators
Sand blasted to bare metal and primed -- ready for a topcoat in any color or leave as a primed finish. Every radiator is cleaned (fittings removed, threads tapped) and pressure tested for leakage. All come with a 1-year limited warranty. Priced at $80 per section.
Not sure which is right for you? Call us at (312) 666-6080 -- we are happy to walk you through it.
