Our Timeline
- 1920s: Early business founded in the West Loop of Chicago. The first owners sold used building materials including lumber, pipe, fittings, and plumbing supplies.
- 1939: The Resnick Brothers purchased the business and renamed it Consumers Supply Company — establishing it as a dedicated plumbing supply distributor serving Chicago contractors and homeowners.
- 1940s–50s: World War II created demand for more diverse supplies and Consumers began to expand their product offerings to serve the growing Chicago market.
- 1973: Howard and Rick Brenner purchased the business. Howard brought an extensive background in hardware, while Rick graduated with a degree in Industrial Engineering and Management Science.
- 1975: A new Kitchen & Bath designer showroom featuring fixtures and cabinetry was added in an adjoining West Loop warehouse. The company grew rapidly as Chicago’s home remodeling and do-it-yourself industry took off.
- 1990s: Consumers established itself as one of Chicago’s premier Kitchen and Bath designers and distributors during the city’s real estate boom.
- 2003: Consumers began distributing kitchen, bath, plumbing, and heating products nationwide.
- 2009: Consumers launched its e-commerce website, bringing Chicago’s trusted plumbing and heating supply expertise to customers across the country.
