From a West Loop used materials shop in the 1920s to one of the Midwest’s largest plumbing, heating, kitchen & bath supply stores — this is our story.
Our Timeline
1920s
Early business founded in the West Loop of Chicago. The first owners sold used building materials including lumber, pipe, fittings, and plumbing supplies.
1939
The Resnick Brothers purchased the business and renamed it Consumers Supply Company — establishing it as a dedicated plumbing supply distributor serving Chicago contractors and homeowners.
1940s–50s
World War II created demand for more diverse supplies and Consumers began to expand their product offerings to serve the growing Chicago market.
1973
Howard and Rick Brenner purchased the business. Howard brought an extensive background in hardware, while Rick graduated with a degree in Industrial Engineering and Management Science.
1975
A new Kitchen & Bath designer showroom featuring fixtures and cabinetry was added in an adjoining West Loop warehouse. The company grew rapidly as Chicago’s home remodeling and do-it-yourself industry took off.
1990s
Consumers established itself as one of Chicago’s premier Kitchen and Bath designers and distributors during the city’s real estate boom.
2003
2009
Consumers launched its e-commerce website, bringing Chicago’s trusted plumbing and heating supply expertise to customers across the country.
